BOOK DESIGNER

Jieun Ham

As the founder of the book design studio ‘Sangnok,’ designer Jieun Ham explores visual language and sensations through the medium of books.
Moving beyond the concept of a book as something merely to be read, she aims for a “book to be experienced,” presenting the book as both a spatial environment and a physical object.

“For Envol, I envisioned a cool and free image of soaring into the sky, while for Éveil, a cozy yet dreamlike image shrouded in mist came to mind.
I sought to visualize these concepts through the contrast of a vivid blue and a pale grey, expressing the tension created by these differing images through color.
For the covers, I used ‘Pebble Texture Paper,’ which possesses a stone-like surface feel. I hoped that the moment this unique texture is felt at the fingertips, the combined experience of the book and the fragrance would become even more vivid.”
